Align the yellow edges
Once a yellow cross exists, turn U to find how many side edge colors can match their centers. If all four match, continue. If only two match, determine whether they are adjacent or opposite.
Use R U R' U R U2 R' to rearrange upper edges. For an adjacent matched pair, hold the matched sides at back and right. For an opposite pair, apply the sequence once, then turn U and inspect for an adjacent pair. Finish by turning U as needed and checking all four side colors.
Worked example
A yellow-blue edge belongs above the blue center, even though its yellow sticker is already up.
Try it yourself
Align all four yellow edges and verify that the lower two layers remain complete.
