Build Your Own Calculator
Tell the builder what you want to calculate. Generate a working form, review the formula and units, then calculate and share.
Describe what you want to calculate or choose an example. You can edit your calculator after building it. Check the formula and results before using them.
Detailed explanation & worked examples
How to build a calculator
- Describe the task or provide an explicit formula with named fields.
- Choose Build my calculator. The generator creates the inputs, default values, formula and explanation.
- Open Edit to rename fields, adjust the formula, select units or add inputs. Use up to 12 fields.
- Enter the values and calculate. Read the unit normalization and arithmetic steps.
- Copy, print, save locally, export JSON or share a link that recreates the editable calculator.
Formula syntax
Use +, − (typed as -), *, /, ^ and parentheses. Constants: pi and e. Functions: sqrt, abs, round, ceil, floor, sin, cos, tan, ln, log, min, max and pow. min, max and pow take two arguments; the others take one. Trig uses radians. Powers associate right: 2^3^2 = 512; -2^2 = -4.
Worked example: rectangle area
Prompt: “Build a rectangle area calculator with length 10 feet and width 5 feet.” Formula: length × width. The generator converts feet to meters, calculates 3.048 × 1.524 = 4.645152 m² and displays 50 ft² when square feet is selected as the output.
Units and limits
Each unit-bearing field is converted to its family’s base before evaluation. Select an output family only when the formula returns that family’s base quantity. Currency and percentages can use Number/custom label. The builder does not perform symbolic dimensional analysis or validate an engineering design. Use kelvin for absolute-temperature formulas and the separate temperature-difference family for intervals.
Unknown tasks are not assigned an invented formula. Refine the prompt or provide “formula: …”. Zero denominators, unknown fields, invalid math and oversized expressions are rejected.
