Tube radios and hazardous designs
Vacuum-tube equipment can contain high voltages and stored energy. Some transformerless designs can place the chassis at a dangerous potential. These hazards are design-specific and cannot be resolved by a generic online checklist.
This module is awareness and planning. It does not give live probing, discharge, isolation or power-up instructions. A qualified technician must determine an appropriate servicing method for the exact design.
Worked example
A radio described as an AC/DC set may lack the isolation a beginner assumes from its cabinet or plug.
Try it yourself
List the questions you would ask a qualified restorer about safe assessment and preservation.
Check your understanding
Does unplugging prove a tube radio is safe internally?
Stored energy and internal design hazards require competent assessment.
