Temperature Units & Calculator
Absolute temperature requires both a scale factor and an offset: K = °C + 273.15; K = (°F + 459.67) × 5/9. Do not use this conversion for a temperature difference.
Detailed explanation & worked examples
Conversion method
Base value = input × source factor + source offset. Output = (base value − target offset) ÷ target factor. Only units from this family can be converted together.
Worked example
For the first two units below: 1 Kelvin (K) becomes -272.15000000 Celsius (°C).
| Unit | Multiplier | Offset |
|---|---|---|
| Kelvin (K) | 1 | 0 |
| Celsius (°C) | 1 | 273.15 |
| Fahrenheit (°F) | 0.55555555555556 | 255.37222222222 |
| Rankine (°R) | 0.55555555555556 | 0 |
