Cells and organization

A cell is a basic unit of living organisms. In multicellular organisms, specialized cells form tissues, tissues form organs, and organs work in systems. Plant and animal cells share features but are not identical.

Cell membranes regulate exchange with the surroundings. Many plant cells contain chloroplasts for photosynthesis and have a cell wall. Not every cell has every structure shown in a simplified diagram.
