Power, grounds and harness diagrams
A system may have constant power, switched or electronically controlled activation, ground and signal connections. Factory systems do not all use the same color code or ignition arrangement.
Read the vehicle-specific and equipment diagrams together. Follow the manufacturer’s battery-disconnection and reconnection procedures, including retained settings and security requirements. Do not work on airbags or high-voltage hybrid/EV systems.
Worked example
A head unit that loses stored settings can have an issue in its memory-power path, but this symptom alone does not establish which wire is wrong.
Try it yourself
On a fictional diagram, label constant supply, activation input, ground and speaker outputs without connecting real wires.
Check your understanding
Are wire colors universal across every vehicle?
Use the exact diagrams rather than color assumptions.
