Troubleshoot with observations
Record the symptom: no power, one silent channel, noise, settings lost, distortion or protective shutdown. Note the source, volume, engine state and recent changes. Begin with permitted external settings and connection checks.
Distortion may come from source clipping, amplifier limits, damaged drivers or unsuitable settings. Increasing gain is not a repair. Stop operating a system showing burning odor, abnormal heat or repeated protective shutdown until assessed.
Worked example
If noise occurs on one source but not another, compare that source path before replacing every component.
Try it yourself
Make a symptom decision tree ending in a safe external check or a professional referral.
Check your understanding
Should gain be increased to fix unexplained distortion?
Gain does not solve the underlying cause and can worsen clipping or damage.
