Pieces, centers and a stable grip

A 3×3 cube has six centers, twelve edges and eight corners. Centers identify the face colors; edges have two colored stickers and corners have three. Solving means placing each piece in its correct position and orientation, not just making one attractive face.

Use the same reference grip while practising a sequence: yellow center up, white down, green front and red right on the simulator. A whole-cube viewing rotation is different from turning a layer. Real cube color schemes can differ; use the centers on your cube.

Worked example

The white-red-blue corner belongs between the white, red and blue centers even if one white sticker already faces down.

Try it yourself

On a solved cube, identify four edges and four corners without turning it.

Interactive 3×3 cube practice

Yellow up, white down, green front, red right. Turns use that fixed grip; changing the view changes the camera only.

Supported moves: U D R L F B, optionally followed by ' or 2. No whole-cube, slice or wide moves.

Solved practice cube. This simulator demonstrates moves; it does not solve an arbitrary physical cube.
