Make the yellow cross
With yellow up, inspect only the four upper edges. Their yellow stickers can form a dot, an L, a line or a cross. Ignore corner stickers for this stage. Use F R U R' U' F' to orient these edges.
For a line, hold it horizontally across the up face. For an L, hold its yellow edge arms toward the back and left. For a dot, apply the sequence once, inspect the new case and orient the cube for that case before continuing. Do not assume every case requires the same number of repetitions.
Worked example
A line case becomes a cross after the sequence in the correct orientation. Side colors are aligned in the next stage.
Try it yourself
Draw the four possible edge patterns and label the recommended starting orientation.
Interactive 3×3 cube practice
Yellow up, white down, green front, red right. Turns use that fixed grip; changing the view changes the camera only.
Supported moves: U D R L F B, optionally followed by ' or 2. No whole-cube, slice or wide moves.
Solved practice cube. This simulator demonstrates moves; it does not solve an arbitrary physical cube.
