Greetings and introductions
Mandarin uses tones that help distinguish word meanings. Pinyin is a romanization system with tone marks, not an English pronunciation spelling. This course presents simplified characters with pinyin. 你好 is a general hello; 我叫 introduces your name. Listen to supported Mandarin audio instead of applying English sound rules to pinyin.
Practise both directions: recognize the target phrase, then produce it from its meaning. Repeat after available audio, cover the text, and try again. Audio availability depends on your browser’s installed voices; this tool does not grade pronunciation.
Worked example
Mini-dialogue: choose a greeting, introduce your name, and say thank you using the phrases below.
Try it yourself
Practise three phrases with the text covered. Revisit them tomorrow and again later in the week.
Listen and practise
Choose a card to practise its meaning. Audio uses an available voice for the target language. Recording and pronunciation grading are not enabled.
Check your understanding
Choose the phrase for: Hello
The target expression is 你好. Compare its use with the context notes above.
