Questions, variables and fair tests
A testable question connects something you change with something you measure. Keep other important conditions as similar as practical. Repeat measurements and record unexpected results rather than discarding them.
A correlation does not by itself prove causation. Consider alternative explanations and limits in your setup. A fair test is not a promise that every variable has been controlled perfectly.
Worked example
Test whether paper airplane wing width affects travel distance while keeping paper, launch position and launch method consistent.
Try it yourself
Write a test question, the changed variable, measured outcome and three conditions to control.
Check your understanding
What is the measured outcome in this airplane test?
Distance is the response being compared.
