Learning goal: Classify the screen technology and gather model-specific evidence.
LCD describes a light-modulating panel. Many televisions sold as LED TVs are LCD panels illuminated by LED backlights. Mini-LED commonly describes a backlighting approach, not a separate self-emissive panel. OLED pixels emit light and do not use an LCD backlight. Product names alone can hide these differences.
Record the full model suffix, screen size, visible symptoms, connected sources and recent changes. A model family can use different panel or board revisions, so do not select replacement parts only by the front-brand name. Start with the manufacturer’s support documentation and approved user controls.
For an assessed unit without signs of damage, safe external diagnosis can compare menus and supported sources. Smoke, burning odor, damaged insulation or abnormal heating are stopping conditions. Flat-panel power supplies can retain hazardous energy; thin construction does not make opening the television a beginner task.
Diagnostic case
A buyer describes an OLED with no image and asks for new backlight strips. That request assumes the wrong architecture. Identity must come before parts selection.
Fictional training case; the observations are not measurements from your television.
Practice task / worksheet
Make an identity and symptom sheet for a fictional television, including LCD/OLED classification and five facts needed before ordering parts.

Check your reasoning
Does an OLED television use LCD-style backlight strips?
OLED pixels emit light, so an LCD backlight diagnosis does not apply.
